Tumblr CEO David Karp spoke at the F.ounders event last Friday where he announced that his company would be releasing a new update to their iOS app in the coming week.

Tumble currently has an app available for the iPhone, but Karp implied that the new version would be a complete overhaul of the app.

The new Tumblr iOS app will follow the lead of the company’s current Android app in that it offers a number of features already available on Tumblr and tailoring the user experience specifically for mobile bloggers with the inclusion of the best free tumblr themes.

At the event, Karp said of the new version, “I’m incredibly proud of our Android development today. I think that app is worlds beyond a lot of the stuff going on on that platform today, and I think it’s an incredible representation of Tumblr.”

Karp was pleased with the Android version of the Tumblr app particularly for how it incorporated the site’s many features like implementing the best free tumblr themes while keeping it minimal and not cramming all the features into the mobile screen.

He hinted that the iOS version will see many of the features that have been effectively working well on their Android version like the best free tumblr themes, but will also incorporated some special features that will be native to the iOS.

Currently, the Tumblr app has built in two ad spots that are now ready to go into circulation says Karp. Although, he said that he was not certain if there would be ads built into the app on the day of its launch.
